Tell us about yourself.
My name is Jenna, I’m 29, I am from Southern Maine and I have a three year old son named Tristan and a husband named Shawn.
What do you make?
All kinds of things! I love all arts and crafts. I’ve been drawing and painting since I can remember. My dad draws and paints too. I guess you could say he is a jack of all trades. He made sure I was too and still to this day, I consider him to be the smartest man I know!
I learned to knit, crochet and sew from my grandmother and mother. They both made afghans and quilts.
What inspires you & what is your creative process?
I usually make my jewelry after my son has gone to sleep for the night. I’m able to focus better without my toddler running around and getting into mischief.
I usually sit on the couch with my hubby and twist my wire in my hand. He usually gives me some ideas on what to make and we both come up with something fun.
Where is your studio and how has it evolved?
Currently, my studio is my bedroom. We just moved back to Maine from New Hampshire and I have no real space at the moment in this house. We have a nice big attic we want to turn into our studio, but need to insulate the ceiling first. Winter is on it’s way and it’s already to cold up there.
What tools & equipment do you use?
I use a micro torch to solder my silver together. I have an old piece of wood I sit my work on. A magnesium board for soldering, 2 stainless steel plates for hammering (which you can see in my etsy listings) I try to find things around the house I can use to make my jewelry.
What else do you do? Is this your full time gig?
I’m a mechanic for a printing company full time. I always loved taking things apart as a kid to see how they worked…Now I get paid to do it! I would definitely love to be a silversmith full time though.
How do you promote yourself?
I have my shop name on my vehicle, I’m also in the process of starting a blog and myspace for my etsy site. I hand out business cards to everyone and most of all, I wear my own creations!
